Welney, February 2004
Despite the poor light and weather conditions, the Short-eared Owls, Barn Owls and Kestrel at
Welney were out and about and showing well.
The Kestrel dropped down onto the grass from its perch on the nearby barn and began pulling out
earthworms.

The Barn Owl spent long periods on the fence posts, in between hunting for voles along the
roadside verges.

The Short-eared Owls covered a wider area in their search for food. There wasn't enough light for
flight or action shots, but fortunately the birds often perched by the roadside and posed for the
cameras.
